Description
James Wright to Isabella Gardner, no date (autograph letter signed, 2 pages). This poem was inspired by a conversation Wright had with Gardner over the phone. Wright wrote out these phrases as Gardner talked on the phone. She spoke about "Prospero's Isle" and how the inhabitants don't smoke, but that they drink - "booze" alot. Gardner told Wright that the sound of the sea was so loud that she left. She said that the inhabitants were ethnically diverse - so there was no issue with skin color. Gardner got sick while she was there and went to Boston to rest. She ends the poem by saying that she wants to return to the Isle one day because she loves it so much.
