The Jewish Ghetto and its Urban Contexts

The literature on Venice's Jewish Ghetto has contextualized it as a distant area that was very separate from the rest of the city. Through study of the urban context and mapping residence and commerce, I hope to prove that the ghetto was intergrated into Venice. The services provided by the Jewish population made them valuable and even granted them certain rights despite religious prejudice.
